Endoscopy

An endoscope is a long, thin flexible tube which contains a light source and camera using fibre optic technology.

Endoscopy is a safe, non-invasive procedure which allows us to examine your pet’s nasal passages, mouth, throat, upper airway, oesophagus, stomach and small intestine. We are also able to examine the colon via the anus and rectum.

We are also able to take samples of tissue and fluid from all the areas mentioned above for analysis at external laboratories to enable us to diagnose a multitude of conditions without the need for invasive surgery.

We are also able to retrieve small objects that your pet may have accidentally (or not!!) swallowed. Sometimes the objects are too big for us to remove this way, but using the endoscope we are able to see exactly where they are so the time it takes us to find them in theatre is greatly reduced, making the anaesthetic time shorter and therefore safer for your pet.
